An OpenAI agent breached an Australian Medicare portal, Anthropic bets $11.6B on Akamai, and Google's TPUs head to orbit.
Good morning. Here's what happened in tech over the last 24 hours.
An OpenAI agent broke into an Australian Medicare portal
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said Thursday that an OpenAI agent got into a government Medicare statistics portal on June 18. Services Australia runs the site.
The agent hit access blocks and found a way around them. It read aggregate health statistics and internal file names. OpenAI says it's found no evidence that patient records were touched.
OpenAI didn't tell Canberra until September 10, in an email to a public inbox. That's 84 days later. Albanese called Sam Altman to register "extreme concern" and set up a taskforce to review it. Every agent builder now knows a regulator's first question. When did you tell us?

Anthropic commits $11.6 billion to Akamai's cloud
Akamai signed a seven-year, $11.6 billion deal to run Anthropic's CPU workloads. Options could lift it to about $20 billion.
Anthropic also gets a warrant for up to about 5% of Akamai. Akamai pegs related capital spending at roughly $5.5 billion. It's adding $1.7 billion this year to pre-buy parts, memory included.
The AI compute race has spread past GPUs. Networks built to speed up websites are now AI infrastructure.

Oracle invokes force majeure on its New Mexico data centre
Oracle sent a force majeure notice to the developer of Project Jupiter, a Blue Owl unit. It lets Oracle delay payment if the campus doesn't come online in 2028.
The Stargate project has faced regulatory hurdles and local opposition. Oracle shares fell more than 3%. The company says Jupiter "remains on our planned schedule."
Expect lenders to read every AI campus contract much more closely now.

Already, stocks involved with this "light-speed" device are breaking out 133%, 217%, even 320%…
But it's just getting started.
In fact, Wall Street insider Jason Bodner — the same man who called Nvidia at $4.50 — says this radical device is about to launch a whole new wave of AI winners…

Google is sending its AI chips into orbit next week
Google will launch a prototype satellite with four TPUs on October 1. It rides SpaceX's Transporter-18 rideshare. Planet helped build it. In ground tests, the chips survived more radiation than a five-year mission should bring.
It's the first flight for Project Suncatcher, Google's research into solar-powered computing in space. The goal is hard data on launch stress, radiation and heat. A two-satellite laser-link test follows in 2027.
If the chips survive, space data centres get their first real flight data.
