Companion robots reach Chinese homes, any AI agent can run your Nest, and OpenAI wants $1.5 trillion without the IPO.
Good morning. Here's what happened in tech over the last 24 hours.
Lifelike Companion Robots Started Arriving In Chinese Homes Yesterday
UBTech delivered its first UWorld U1 humanoids to Chinese homes yesterday. These aren't chore robots. UBTech sells them as company, only to adults.
Prices run from 119,800 yuan, about $17,000, up to 990,000 yuan for the top model. Each one has 88 joints and a face built to hold eye contact. More than 13,300 people paid deposits before the first unit shipped.
Early buyers say the real thing doesn't match the promotional renders, and the expressions still read as mechanical. UBTech isn't showing a demo anymore. It's shipping a product, and customers decide whether the uncanny valley is worth the price.
