### Amazon rebuilds the Kindle lineup with flush screens and a $35 remote

Amazon redesigned its whole Kindle family on Thursday. Every new model gets a flush-front display, so there's no raised bezel to trap crumbs.

The base Kindle keeps a 6-inch screen and starts at $149.99\. It opens books about 30% faster. The Paperwhite starts at $199.99 and promises up to 12 weeks of battery. The Colorsoft goes edge-to-edge color for $289.99.

There's also the Kindle Click, a $34.99 Bluetooth page-turner. Preorders are open now. If you read in bed or on a treadmill, the remote might be the real upgrade.

#### A FortiMail zero-day is under attack, and there's no patch yet

Fortinet disclosed a critical FortiMail flaw on Thursday that attackers are already using. It's tracked as CVE-2026-104286 and scores 9.8 out of 10.

An attacker doesn't need to log in. A crafted web request can write files onto the mail gateway, and from there run commands. The 7.2, 7.4, 7.6 and 8.0 branches are all affected.

Fixed builds haven't shipped. Until they do, Fortinet says to disable Identity-Based Encryption or wall off the management interface. CISA gave federal agencies until Sunday.

#### Pi, the minimalist agent harness, hits 1.0 and tops Hacker News

Earendil shipped Pi 1.0 on Thursday. It's the first stable release of the stripped-down agent harness many developers use for coding.

The big change is native MCP support through a feature called Codemode. Tools now load only when needed, which keeps context lean. A new experimental package, Pi Durable, targets agents that run for hours.

Earendil says Pi has hundreds of thousands of weekly users. The 1.0 tag tells teams it's safe to build on.

#### Mandiant's founder raises $255.5M for AI agents that hack you first

Kevin Mandia's new startup, Armadin, raised a $255.5 million Series B on Thursday. Andreessen Horowitz and Accel co-led it at a valuation above $2.5 billion.

Armadin points swarms of AI agents at its customers' networks around the clock. They map weak spots and chain small flaws into real break-in paths. That's meant to replace the once-a-year penetration test.

Mandia sold Mandiant to Google for $5.4 billion in 2022\. His new bet is that defenders need to automate faster than attackers.

#### Broadcom will lend Anthropic up to $42B to lease chips

Broadcom agreed to lend Anthropic up to $42 billion, Reuters reported Thursday. The deal surfaced in Anthropic's IPO filing.

It comes as a convertible note. It could cover about a third of Anthropic's $125.2 billion, five-year lease of TPU computing capacity. If the note converts, Broadcom ends up holding Anthropic shares.

Anthropic flagged potential conflicts of interest in the filing. Broadcom is now supplier, lender and possible shareholder in one of its biggest customers.

#### TSMC weighs a second US chip hub, this time in Texas

TSMC is weighing a multi-fab campus in Texas, Bloomberg reported Thursday. Each fab would cost at least $20 billion.

That would sit on top of the $265 billion TSMC already committed to Arizona. Planning is early, and TSMC isn't commenting. Singapore is also in the running.

The swing factor is a US manufacturing tax credit that lapses at year's end. If Congress lets it go, Texas could slip.
