ChatGPT Stops Talking and Starts Drawing, While Haiku 5.5 Drops to a Dime
ChatGPT's GPT-6 update goes visual, Anthropic cuts small-model prices about 75%, and Microsoft prices its Nvidia Surface PCs.
Good morning. ChatGPT starts drawing its answers, Anthropic makes its smallest model a lot cheaper, and four astronauts come home today.
ChatGPT's GPT-6 update makes answers you can tap
OpenAI began rolling a new GPT-6 model into ChatGPT's Chat tab on Wednesday, paired with a mode it calls Intelligent UI. Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users got it first, with Enterprise access depending on admin settings. Free and Go users start getting it today.
Intelligent UI lets ChatGPT decide when an answer should be more than text: an interactive chart, a calculator built for your question, a trip map or a diagram you can tap through. Product manager Aarush Selvan said the most helpful answers "aren't just text." Users can dial the visuals back.
According to OpenAI, Plus and higher tiers run GPT-6 Sol, while Free and Go get GPT-6 Luna. The first GPT-6 models reached subscribers last month.

Anthropic also halved Sonnet 5.5's cache-read price to $0.10 per million tokens. Monthly API credits are rolling out this week: $100 for Max 5x, $200 for Max 20x, and up to $500 pooled for Team plans.

Amazon Prime's builder exits stealth with a $250M micro-machine maker
Jeff Holden, who built Amazon Prime and was Uber's first chief product officer, unveiled Atomic Machines on Wednesday after six years in stealth, with $250 million raised. Its "Matter Compiler" builds tiny machines with moving parts straight from code, with no moulds or masks.
The first product, PrimeSwitch PS-150, is a relay for AI data centers moving to 800-volt DC power. The company says it opens in 50 microseconds, about 1,000 times faster than a conventional contactor. It goes on public show at the OCP Global Summit in San Jose next week.
