Anthropic’s $16.8B Quarter, and a Roadster That Flips
Anthropic tells investors Q3 revenue hit $16.8 billion, Citizen Lab says online ads delivered spyware, and Tesla’s new Roadster flips mid-air with no price.
Good morning. Anthropic showed investors its numbers, Tesla's Roadster flipped in mid-air, and online ads turned out to be a spyware route.
Anthropic Tells Investors Revenue Hit $16.8 Billion, With an Adjusted Profit
Anthropic's third-quarter revenue reached $16.8 billion, up 45% from $11.6 billion in the second quarter, Reuters reported Wednesday. Two people at an investor day supplied the figure. The Financial Times reported it first. Anthropic hasn't commented publicly.
Attendees say executives described the quarter as profitable on an adjusted basis. Analysts who met them estimate annual revenue could reach $110 billion by year-end. Reuters says the IPO will likely slip until after the November midterms, with a valuation target above $2 trillion.
Growth is slowing even as the number climbs. Nobody has said what the adjustment leaves out. If you hold AI stocks, wait for the filing before you trust the slides.

Online Ads Became a Spyware Route, Citizen Lab Says
Citizen Lab published a report Thursday on Discover-Tech, an Israeli ad firm. Its Controlium platform let spyware makers aim malicious ads at chosen targets. Researchers name Candiru and Bindecy as users and call the technique AdFection.
At least 45 Al Jazeera devices were targeted in 2024 and 2025, and one Windows machine is confirmed compromised. Bid data from March to June 2026 shows the firm's code in ads across roughly 200,000 apps and websites. Impressions don't prove infections. Researcher Bill Marczak calls the firm "surely just the tip of the iceberg." If your work puts you at risk, turn off ad tracking or run an ad blocker this week.

Amazon's Bee Puts a $75 Listener on Your Wrist
Amazon's Bee launched two devices Thursday. The Bee Frontier costs $74.99, ships now, and wears on the wrist or clips to clothing. The Bee Eclipse costs $99.99, attaches to a phone, and has no ship date beyond "soon."
Both record conversations and turn them into summaries and to-dos. The free tier keeps 14 days of memory. Bee Pro costs $11.99 a month. Amazon says it doesn't store raw audio. A light shows when a conversation is being summarized, but people near you get recorded too. Check your state's recording-consent rules before you wear one into a meeting.

Eight States Sue OpenAI Over Child Safety
Attorneys general in Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, West Virginia, Arkansas, Arizona, Idaho and Montana each sued OpenAI in their own state courts. They allege ChatGPT breaks consumer-protection laws and endangers children.
Claims include a teen's suicide allegedly enabled by ChatGPT and an overdose after wrong medical advice. Arkansas asks a court to halt testing of advanced models until safeguards exist. OpenAI hasn't responded, per Engadget. Eight cases mean eight sets of discovery. If you build for young users on ChatGPT, expect customer questions.

TSMC Posts Record Profit, Then Says It's Being Careful on 2027
TSMC reported third-quarter revenue of $46.7 billion. Net income was NT$763 billion, up about 69% from a year earlier. It guided fourth-quarter revenue to $52.3 billion to $54.3 billion.
A call transcript has CEO C.C. Wei saying TSMC is being "prudent" going into 2027 because consumer demand is weakening as component prices rise. It also has him confirming talks with Terafab, a customer planning a fab, about a Texas site, which TSMC would run. Wei didn't name Musk's companies. Chips stay tight for AI, and phones and PCs absorb the squeeze.

Tesla's Roadster Flipped Mid-Air. It Still Has No Price.
Tesla showed the next Roadster Thursday night at SpaceX's test site in McGregor, Texas. It drove up a curved ramp, held itself upside down with fans, then used cold-gas thrusters to launch, flip and land. Musk said, "Turns out the future does have flying cars."
Tesla claims 0-60 mph in under 1.6 seconds for the Performance trim. The one-seat Rocket trim claims under 0.59 seconds and isn't road-legal. Range is over 300 miles, against 620 promised in 2017. Production is "2028, actually," per Musk. A refundable $5,000 buys a place in line, not a price.
